Character Creation & Guidelines

The following is a guide on how to make a character for Cyberpunk 2080!

Read the Character Rules

  1. Player Characters will not be under the age of 18. No exceptions.
  2. Characters from other media are not allowed.

    However, using another character's physical likeness is okay so long as it isn't an immediately iconic character (e.g. Mario). Homages and inspirations are fine as well.

  3. Altering your character's sheet without approval after the character is approved is strictly forbidden.

    Members found doing this will have their character retroactively denied until it is reworked back to a baseline.

  4. Characters shall not be among the "Banned Characters" as listed in the Character Types guide, linked in the next step.

Pick What Character Type You Wish to Start With

This determines how powerful your character is at the start, as well as what template you will use. Note that the template has a link to a "Cybernetics List" (found on this site!) which is official and used to fulfill the instructions on the app.

Decide Your Character's Role

Your character's role determines a lot, from their particular specialties to what "role" they play in society through their abilities.

Grab the Template

Create a copy of this document, and then use it to create your character. Once the details requested are filled out, submit this to Character Submissions.

You may use a custom template or text only template so long as it includes the required parts as listed on the official template.

PC / Full Character Template ↗ Mobile Template ↗ Text Only Template

Mobile Template: For those on mobile or who just want a much less formatted template. Create a copy via "Share & Export → Make a Copy" and fill it out. Then, submit to Character Submissions. You may use a custom template or text only template so long as it includes the required parts as listed on the official template.

Text Only Template: For those who want the least formatted template or can't use Google Docs. This template does not have explanations or list links. Also, make sure to remove the ` (tildes) from the beginning and end of the template so the formatting will take effect.

Here are some helpful pieces of info to know:

5A. Cybernetics & Their Limits

Cybernetic Limit

There are three hard limits to cybernetics:

  1. Unless it is custom made, we use an official list of cybernetics, which is linked here. This includes almost every cybernetic from the setting, though might be missing a few on purpose, as some were not included due to them being unrealistic, redundant, or too "gamey".
  2. The color code of cybernetics, which is explained on the list at the top.
  3. The number of slots on certain parts of the body, as is also explained on the list.

Past these three limits, there is finally your character's Cyberpsycho Level:

  • Your character starts with their Cyberpsycho Level at 0, with 5 being the max (Extreme Cyberpsycho). You can learn more about these Cyberpsycho Levels here.
  • Every cybernetic has a listed Humanity Loss (HL):
Negative Lowers your Cyberpsycho Level. These are rare!
Harmless Does not raise your Cyberpsycho Level.
Minimal 6 of these raise your Cyberpsycho Level by 1.
Moderate 4 of these raise your Cyberpsycho Level by 1.
Substantial 3 of these raise your Cyberpsycho Level by 1.
Major 2 of these raise your Cyberpsycho Level by 1.
Critical Can raise your Cyberpsycho Level by more than 1.
Assuming you meet the hard limits above, your last cybernetic limit is that you cannot take more cyberware once your character is at Cyberpsycho Level 5.
  • Be aware that at Cyberpsycho Level 5, your character starts as an Extreme Cyberpsycho, which means that only an outside force can apprehend and help them!
  • It is highly recommended to at least stop at Cyberpsycho Level 4.
  • Even if your character takes no Cyberware, your Cyberpsycho Level will be set to 1 at the start. We have you start at 0 so you can get at least a few cybernetics before your character starts developing symptoms.
  • Chrome Characters, having been around longer, can start with more Cyberware.
    • For the sake of picking cyberware, all cyberware of Moderate HL or higher is a single tier lower. For example: If a cybernetic would have Major HL, it instead has Moderate HL. This only applies for Character Creation!

5B. Belongings

Belongings can be found (but not limited to) the Item Catalogue. This also includes the Extended Item List .

Netrunner Characters will be interested in the Netrunning Item List as well.

Belonging Limit
  • In general, the limits as described in the Item Catalogue are not hard set.
  • We instead follow a "soft limit." This means that the staff will look at your belongings and determine if what you are trying to take makes sense in regards to your character's role and occupation.
    • What this looks like in practice is that your character generally can't take items that are of an Underlined, Yellow or Red grade, like in the Cybernetics list.
    • However, if you feel it would make sense for your character to have one of the Underlined items, feel free to throw it on your character sheet.

Post Your Character

Once you have completed the template, post the character in Character Submissions. Be sure to have the character's Handle (or name) as the title.

Notes About Character Creation / Applications

  • We always recommend that you post your app even if you are having trouble with it in any way. We very rarely deny apps, and instead want to work with you to try and make it work.
  • You do not have to include every piece of info about your character. You may choose instead to keep certain details secret, so long as staff are alerted in private. This applies even to required entries, which can be left blank if you talk to and provide it to staff to note.
  • If you have any questions or issues that aren't answered here, please let us know in Creative Discussion or privately via Staff Contact.

Reviewing

Here at 2080, we do not deny character apps outright. We will work with you to bring it to an acceptable level. When in doubt, we always encourage you to submit the app rather than hold onto it. It allows us to see the app and offer feedback, if needed.

Acceptance Requirement

When a character is submitted, they will need 1 vote from staff to be accepted. 1 additional vote is needed for Exotic characters, and 1 additional vote is needed for Chrome characters.

For example: A normal character needs 1 vote, an Exotic needs 2, a Chrome needs 2, and an Exotic Chrome needs 4.

The owner (@thedoomguyy) may single-handedly approve characters, but will only do so on his own whim. Please do not ask the owner to skip the voting of staff.
